Blackwood brought out a six-volume illustrated edition of George Eliot's Novels in 1876-78, and the twenty-four-volume Cabinet Edition of The Works of George Eliot in 1878-85. The earliest translations of the novel were into German, 1861; French, 1863; and Dutch, 1870. Reprints and new editions have continued to appear in Europe and America.
