This Family Rosary Commemorative Edition of the Catholic Bible, published by The Catholic Press, Chicago in 1954, honors the Marian Year of 1953. Edited by Reverend John P. O’Connell, this rather unique edition celebrates devotion to the Virgin Mary while presenting the complete Catholic Scriptures with reverent 1950s design and craftsmanship. This bible has been built to last and is of a very solid design and architecture. At over 70, it still looks new and will likely last well in to the future.
Bound in leatherette with gold gilt lettering and page edges, this large volume features an owner’s Marian pledge (images 6,12) and an interesting military record page (image 13) from a former Royal Canadian Air Force squadron leader (1939–1957) — a unique historical provenance that adds depth and character. The forms leave room for continuity for many generations of owners. This bible contains numerous illustrations and additional biblical related information. The closing section contains a Catholic Encyclopedia.
