This Everyman’s Library edition, translated by Muriel Press and edited by Peter Foote, remains one of the most respected English versions of this medieval masterpiece.
One of the great Icelandic sagas, this is a story of love, vengeance, and fate, translated into English at the height of mid-century philological translation in 1964. This saga was written around the mid-1200s, in events set a few centuries earlier in Western Iceland and the Viking world at large, of which Iceland was a part during the Viking golden age between the 9th and 11th centuries. This is a wonderful and interesting piece of Icelandic and Viking cultural history.
