This edition of The Hunchback of Notre Dame by Victor Hugo was published by the International Collectors Library, New York, likely in the 1940s. Bound in handsome faux leather with a ribbon marker, it has stood the test of time well.
Condition: Good. No markings inside. Strong binding. Light wear on the corners from shelf storage, otherwise excellent for its age.
In the vaulted Gothic towers of Notre-Dame Cathedral lives Quasimodo, the hunchbacked bellringer. Mocked and shunned for his appearance, he is pitied only by Esmeralda, a beautiful gypsy dancer to whom he becomes completely devoted. Esmeralda, however, has also attracted the attention of the sinister archdeacon Claude Frollo, and when she rejects his lecherous advances, Frollo plots her destruction. Only Quasimodo can intervene.
Hugo’s evocative tale brings to life medieval Paris in one of the greatest historical romances of the nineteenth century.
