One of the most popular and enduring works of military history ever published.
Used for over 170 years in military academies, schools, and in general readership, The Fifteen Decisive Battles of the World has helped shape modern historical understanding of warfare and empire. Sir Edward Creasy’s influential 1851 work explores fifteen major military engagements—from Marathon to Waterloo—that, in his view, altered the course of civilization.
This edition with illustrations by Joseph Domjam comprises the complete text of the fifth edition (1854) omitting only some obscure references to earlier historical writings. The author's citations from Greek sources have been transliterated into Roman characters with his Latin quotations, printed in English translations.
This classic account popularized the “Great Man and Great Battle” view of history and remains a cornerstone of classical military literature. It also presents an opportunity to gain insight into the Anglo-Saxon worldview of Creasy, a Victorian imperialist, judge and historian and continues to be read and cited for its literary quality and sweeping narrative. A landmark of 19th-century historical writing and an enriching, and great read for any contemporary!
Collector's edition aesthetic. This elegant 1969 Heritage Press edition features cloth binding, smyth-sewn binding and high-quality typography and illustrations. The cover features a Medallion motif stamped in black and gold. 1382g. 22.5x30x3cm
