Politics & Poetics. By Aristotle (Translated by Benjamin Jowett and B.H. Butcher. Illustrations by Leonard Baskin)
An excellent edition of Politics and Poetics by Aristotle. A good translation. Translated by Benjamin Jowett and B.H. Butcher with an introduction by Horace M.Kallen. Illustrations by Leonard Baskin. Published by The Heritage Press. New York, 1964. This book is unique and styled and designed for the1960s. In this volume, Aristotle's Politics & Poetics, two of his most influential works are illustrated with portrait illustrations by Leonard Baskin. These illustrations adapt the expected portrait forms with more expressionist, 20th century methods. Baskin was a landmark sculptor, printer, and artist who famously published important works under his Gehenna Press. This illustrated edition of Aristotle is a unique appearance of his portrait engravings outside his own press. This edition is in excellent condition (see images) with the original decorated cloth boards with only fading to spine. Integrity of the book is excellent and solid. Pages are excellent, unmarked and intact. Includes the original slipcase which looks good except for bottom tear (see image 6). With the publisher’s original Heritage Club Sandglass pamphlet (images 18,19,20) 1445g. 19.5x27x4.5cm
