Matthew Battles’ account offers a general survey of libraries and the written record across history. From ancient Alexandria to modern research collections and censorship, Battles shows how libraries shape and preserve knowledge and how they reflect the societies that build them. His experience as a librarian lends practical insight into the processes of collecting, preserving, and organising information. A reflective study for readers interested in books.
