This household encyclopedia is an extraordinary testament to the ingenuity of the 1920s; as well as early 20th century and late 19th century French decorative style, with a focus on elegance and utility. It is rich both in content and style. Features an embossed black leatherette cover with deeply embossed floral/filigree patterns on the front board, providing a richly textured surface with large gold-stamped lettering.
A stunning illustrated guide to domestic life in early 20th-century France.
Published in 1926, this beautifully designed reference book captures the rhythm and structure of the French household between the wars. Covering everything from cooking and cleaning to etiquette, electricity, home medicine, child-rearing, sewing, gardening, and even animal care, Larousse Ménager Illustré is both encyclopedic and deeply charming. This is a wonderful and valuable addition to any rich library.
Lavishly illustrated with hundreds of black-and-white and colour plates, it offers a window into the ideals, habits, and aesthetics of the period. A rare and fascinating cultural document—part domestic manual, part social history. And remarkably modern.
